The Farm Manager will oversee all daily farm operations, maintain detailed records of all farming activities and prepare budgets and financial forecasts for farming operations.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant agricultural legislation, food safety standards, and environmental regulations applicable to farming operations.
  • Maintain detailed records of all farming activities including input usage, production volumes, weather data, and equipment maintenance logs.
  • Prepare budgets and financial forecasts for farming operations, track actual expenditure against projections, and report variances to senior management.
  • Develop and implement comprehensive crop rotation plans and soil fertility programmes to maintain long-term soil health and sustainable yields.
  • Monitor the health and growth of crops or livestock daily, identifying signs of disease, nutrient deficiency, or pest infestation and taking corrective action.
  • Oversee all daily farm operations including planting, cultivating, irrigating, harvesting, and post-harvest handling of crops for maximum productivity.
  • Liaise with agricultural extension officers, veterinarians, agronomists, and other specialists to access technical expertise and stay current with industry developments.
Requirements
  • A degree or diploma in agriculture, agronomy, animal science, horticulture, or a related field from a recognised agricultural college or university.
  • A minimum of three to five years of practical farming experience in a commercial agricultural environment with demonstrable results.
  • Experience with irrigation system design, installation, and maintenance including drip, pivot, and sprinkler systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of crop production techniques, soil science, pest management, and modern farming practices relevant to South African conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions quickly in response to changing weather or operational conditions.
  • Physical fitness and stamina to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions during peak farming seasons.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with ability to motivate and direct a diverse team of farm workers effectively.
