Job Description

Hands-on from day one, the Workshop Foreman will test-drive vehicles after repairs to verify that issues have been properly resolved, perform panel beating and body repair work and maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment, ensuring all tools for an automotive components supplier in Midrand, Gauteng.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive engine overhauls involving disassembly, inspection, repair or replacement of worn components, and reassembly of engines.
  • Complete job cards accurately and timeously, documenting all work carried out, parts used, and time spent on each repair for customer invoicing.
  • Test-drive vehicles after repairs to verify that issues have been properly resolved and the vehicle performs safely under normal driving conditions.
  • Perform scheduled vehicle servicing including oil changes, filter replacements, spark plug changes, and fluid level checks according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform panel beating and body repair work including dent removal, frame straightening, panel replacement, welding, and surface preparation for painting.
  • Prepare vehicle surfaces for spray painting by sanding, masking, applying primer and filler, and ensuring a flawless finish matching factory standards.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment, ensuring all tools and equipment are stored correctly and work bays are free of hazards.
Requirements
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship that meets industry safety standards.
  • A comprehensive set of personal tools appropriate to the trade, and ability to use workshop equipment such as hydraulic lifts and wheel alignment machines.
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and software to identify faults in modern vehicle electronic and engine management systems.
  • A recognised trade certificate as a motor mechanic, diesel mechanic, auto electrician, panel beater, or spray painter issued by a relevant SETA.
  • A valid driver's licence, preferably Code 8 or higher, with a clean driving record to enable test-driving of customer vehicles.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, air conditioning, and electrical systems.
  • Good communication skills to explain technical information to customers and service advisors in a clear and understandable manner.
