Job Description

To supervise social auxiliary workers and conduct community outreach and awareness programmes on social issues, an established business in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng is seeking a Community Liaison Officer.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct community outreach and awareness programmes on social issues such as substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' social, emotional, and economic circumstances to identify needs and risks.
  • Supervise social auxiliary workers, volunteers, and community caregivers, providing guidance and support.
  • Facilitate access to social services including grants, housing, healthcare, and other support programmes.
  • Prepare professional reports and recommendations for courts, parole boards, and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential case files and records in accordance with professional standards and data protection legislation.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in social work and registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions for social worker positions.
  • Excellent assessment and report writing skills to produce professional documentation for courts and other authorities.
  • A valid driver's licence is often required for home visits and community outreach work.
  • A clear criminal record is mandatory given the nature of work with children and vulnerable persons.
  • Emotional resilience and the ability to manage the stress associated with working with traumatised and vulnerable individuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and counselling skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • For social auxiliary worker roles, a certificate in social auxiliary work and registration with the SACSSP at the appropriate level.
