Job Description

The purpose of this Quantity Surveyor role is to set out and level works using surveying instruments and prepare and manage project budgets.

You will be based at the De Aar operation in Northern Cape. Collaboration, fairness, and pride in the work define the day-to-day culture. Good work does not go unnoticed, and progression follows performance. The workplace values doing things properly over cutting corners. If you are the right person for this role, apply without hesitation.

The role is based on-site and suits someone living within commuting distance.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Planning

  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports to the project manager and client, documenting achievements, resource utilisation, weather delays, and any emerging issues impacting schedule or budget performance.
  • Manage procurement scheduling and material take-offs from approved drawings and bills of quantities, raising requisitions timeously to ensure materials are available when needed without disrupting the construction programme or causing idle labour.
  • Develop and maintain detailed construction programmes using project management software such as Microsoft Project, identifying critical path activities, resource requirements, and key milestones to guide weekly work planning and resource allocation.
  • Liaise with architects, structural engineers, quantity surveyors, and MEP consultants to resolve design queries, request technical clarifications, process variation orders, and coordinate multidisciplinary interfaces seamlessly on site.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Implement and enforce site-specific health and safety plans in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, ensuring all personnel undergo site induction and sign the required registers before commencing any work.
  • Investigate all incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts thoroughly by conducting root cause analysis, implementing preventative measures, and preparing detailed investigation reports for the construction manager, client representative, and regulatory authorities.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments across all work areas including excavations, scaffolding, working at height, and confined spaces, documenting findings and implementing corrective actions within the agreed timeframes to prevent recurrence.

Site Management & Supervision

  • Manage and coordinate all on-site construction activities including setting out, earthworks, concrete pours, steel fixing, bricklaying, and finishing trades, ensuring every phase progresses according to the approved programme and quality benchmarks.
  • Supervise subcontractors and direct labour across multiple work fronts by allocating daily tasks, monitoring productivity and workmanship, conducting regular toolbox talks, and addressing any performance or conduct issues immediately and decisively on site.
  • Manage the delivery, storage, and distribution of construction materials to site including aggregates, cement, reinforcing steel, and formwork, ensuring correct quantities and specifications arrive on time to avoid costly programme delays.
Requirements
  • A minimum of five years of construction industry experience with at least two years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Construction Regulations, with SACPCMP registration where required.
  • Strong project management skills including ability to plan, schedule, and resource activities using project management software.
  • For artisan roles, a recognised trade certificate in bricklaying, carpentry, or plumbing issued by a relevant training authority.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of quantities.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities when dealing with unforeseen site conditions or technical challenges.
