Trade Electrician

The Trade Electrician will carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on electrical infrastructure, issue Certificates of Compliance after completing installations and adhere strictly to occupational health and safety regulations.

This is an on-site role in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Skills development and on-the-job learning are a genuine part of the role. The role is based on-site and suits someone living within commuting distance.

• Issue Certificates of Compliance after completing installations or repairs, verifying work meets regulatory requirements.
• Install and commission solar photovoltaic systems including panel mounting, inverter connection, battery integration, and system configuration.
• Diagnose and repair electrical faults in industrial machinery, control panels, motor circuits, and building systems using testing equipment.
• Provide guidance and supervision to apprentices and semi-skilled assistants, ensuring they work safely and competently.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals to plan installations and troubleshoot circuit problems.

• Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and equipment technical manuals.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to systematically diagnose faults and identify root causes rather than just symptoms.
• A recognised trade certificate in electrical engineering or national diploma in electrical engineering from a registered institution.
• For solar roles, demonstrated experience in photovoltaic system design and installation with relevant solar-specific certification.
• A wireman's licence issued by the Department of Employment and Labour and electrical contractor registration where required.
• Proficiency in using electrical testing instruments including multimeters, insulation testers, earth loop impedance testers, and clamp meters.
