Job Description

Reporting to the relevant manager, the Quality Control Technician will develop and validate analytical methods for new products and conduct microbiological testing at an established business in Secunda, Mpumalanga.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor laboratory supplies and consumables, placing orders to ensure uninterrupted testing capability.
  • Prepare and analyse samples using a range of laboratory techniques including wet chemistry, chromatography, and spectroscopy.
  • Write and review standard operating procedures, analytical reports, and technical documentation for the laboratory.
  • Conduct microbiological testing including total plate counts, pathogen detection, and sterility testing following standardised methods.
  • Record and interpret test results accurately in the laboratory information management system, identifying trends and anomalies.
  • Prepare reagents, standards, and culture media accurately according to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with Good Laboratory Practice, Good Manufacturing Practice, and ISO 17025 accreditation standards.
Requirements
  • A national diploma or bachelor's degree in chemistry, microbiology, food science, biomedical science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Thorough understanding of laboratory quality systems such as ISO 17025 and the principles of Good Laboratory Practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document procedures and present findings clearly.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in sample handling, testing, and documentation to ensure reliable results.
  • The ability to work methodically and prioritise tasks in a high-volume laboratory environment while maintaining quality.
  • A minimum of one to three years of experience working in an analytical or testing laboratory environment.
  • Good problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot analytical methods and instrument issues independently.
