Job Description

We are seeking a dependable and service-orientated Drainage Specialist to support smooth daily operations in George.

The workplace values doing things properly over cutting corners. Respect, reliability, and a positive attitude define the workplace. Do not wait — submit your details and take the next step.

Normal working hours apply, with occasional flexibility required during busy periods.

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Clear blocked drains, waste pipes, and sewer lines using mechanical drain snakes, high-pressure water jetting equipment rated to 3000 PSI, and CCTV drain inspection cameras to locate obstructions and assess the internal structural condition of buried pipework.
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing faults including burst pipes, leaking joints, dripping taps, malfunctioning float valves, and defective pressure-reducing valves by systematically tracing systems and isolating sections to pinpoint the exact source of the problem.
  • Repair and replace hot water systems including electric and solar geysers, heat pumps, and circulating pumps, checking thermostat settings, heating elements, sacrificial anodes, and safety valves to restore reliable and energy-efficient hot water supply.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on plumbing infrastructure across commercial and industrial sites, checking for corrosion, joint integrity, water hammer, and pressure variations, and generating comprehensive condition reports with recommended remedial actions.

Team Supervision & Quality Control

  • Review completed job cards and site reports to verify that all work has been carried out to specification, materials used are correctly recorded, and the installation is ready for handover and client sign-off with a fully compliant Certificate of Compliance.
  • Supervise and guide junior plumbers and general assistants on site by allocating tasks clearly, demonstrating correct installation and repair techniques, monitoring workmanship against quality standards, and correcting errors before pipework is permanently concealed.
  • Conduct quality inspections of all plumbing installations before backfilling trenches or closing up walls and ceilings, checking pipe gradients, support spacing, joint integrity, and pressure test results to ensure each installation meets the required standard and is free of defects.
  • Mentor plumbing apprentices by providing structured on-the-job training in pipefitting, fault diagnosis, reading technical drawings, professional customer communication, and safe work practices to support their preparation for trade testing with the relevant SETA.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three to four years of experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, or construction environments.
  • A recognised trade certificate in plumbing issued by a relevant SETA or a national certificate in plumbing.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose complex plumbing issues and determine effective and cost-efficient repairs.
  • Proficiency in pipe cutting and threading, soldering, brazing, and use of push-fit and compression fittings.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in environments that may be dirty or unpleasant.
  • For drainage specialist roles, experience with high-pressure jetting equipment and CCTV drain inspection cameras.
  • Thorough knowledge of SANS plumbing codes and regulations governing water supply and drainage installations.
