Job Description

Hands-on from day one, the Drainage Specialist will maintain tools, equipment, and the work vehicle in good working condition, diagnose plumbing faults and leaks using visual inspection and conduct preventative maintenance inspections on plumbing systems for an established business in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

Training is practical and ongoing rather than a once-off exercise. The team prides itself on professionalism and consistently meeting commitments. The setup is well-organised, with clear expectations and steady support. Take the next step in your career and apply before the closing date.

Responsibilities

Maintenance & Technical Support

  • Repair and replace hot water systems including electric and solar geysers, heat pumps, and circulating pumps, checking thermostat settings, heating elements, sacrificial anodes, and safety valves to restore reliable and energy-efficient hot water supply.
  • Perform preventative maintenance inspections on plumbing infrastructure across commercial and industrial sites, checking for corrosion, joint integrity, water hammer, and pressure variations, and generating comprehensive condition reports with recommended remedial actions.
  • Diagnose and repair plumbing faults including burst pipes, leaking joints, dripping taps, malfunctioning float valves, and defective pressure-reducing valves by systematically tracing systems and isolating sections to pinpoint the exact source of the problem.

Installation & Site Execution

  • Install, connect, and commission water supply, drainage, sanitary fixtures, geysers, and hot water reticulation systems in accordance with SANS 10252 and SANS 10254 plumbing standards and approved building plans for residential and commercial projects.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and join copper, galvanised steel, HDPE, and PVC pipes using soldering, brazing, compression, crimping, and solvent welding techniques, pressure-testing all joints before concealing pipework in walls, floors, or underground.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area by cordoning off work zones, displaying appropriate warning signage, containing water spills and debris during repairs, and thoroughly cleaning up after completing work at client premises to leave the site safe and presentable.
  • Manage tools and equipment responsibly by conducting daily pre-use inspections of power tools, drain cleaning machinery, gas torches, and safety harnesses, and immediately removing any defective or damaged equipment from service for repair or replacement.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three to four years of experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, or construction environments.
  • A recognised trade certificate in plumbing issued by a relevant SETA or a national certificate in plumbing.
  • A valid driver's licence is essential for roles requiring travel to multiple sites or call-out response.
  • For drainage specialist roles, experience with high-pressure jetting equipment and CCTV drain inspection cameras.
  • Proficiency in pipe cutting and threading, soldering, brazing, and use of push-fit and compression fittings.
  • Physical fitness to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in environments that may be dirty or unpleasant.
  • Thorough knowledge of SANS plumbing codes and regulations governing water supply and drainage installations.
