Job Description

Hands-on from day one, the Property Maintenance Worker will touch up paintwork and perform minor painting tasks to maintain the appearance, clear blocked drains and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas for a company in Knysna, Western Cape.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all occupational health and safety procedures and wear prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • Perform minor building repairs including painting, patching walls, fixing leaks, and replacing broken fixtures such as door handles, hinges, and taps.
  • Diagnose and repair basic electrical faults including replacing light fittings, switches, plugs, and circuit breakers in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Service and maintain air conditioning units, geysers, gate motors, and fire equipment according to maintenance schedules.
  • Touch up paintwork and perform minor painting tasks to maintain the appearance and condition of buildings and common areas.
  • Conduct regular inspections of buildings, systems, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and prevent costly breakdowns.
  • Report safety hazards, equipment defects, and maintenance needs to supervisors without delay.
Requirements
  • Practical knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry repairs to handle day-to-day maintenance tasks independently.
  • A valid driver's licence and own reliable transport are preferred for travelling between properties and responding to callouts.
  • Physical fitness to perform manual tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose faults and determine the most effective repair approach.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing a schedule of maintenance tasks.
  • Good communication skills and a professional manner when interacting with tenants, clients, and contractors.
  • Previous experience in building maintenance, handyman work, or at least two skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
