Maintenance Worker

The purpose of this Maintenance Worker role is to perform minor building repairs and adhere to all occupational health and safety procedures and wear prescribed.

You will be based at the Pietermaritzburg operation in KwaZulu-Natal. You will be supported to take on more as your confidence grows. Honesty, reliability, and common sense go a long way in this team. If you tick the boxes below, we want to hear from you.

• Report safety hazards, equipment defects, and maintenance needs to supervisors without delay.
• Clear blocked drains, replace taps and washers, repair toilet cisterns, and address minor plumbing leaks to maintain water reticulation systems.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas, storage rooms, and external grounds.
• Adhere to all occupational health and safety procedures and wear prescribed personal protective equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections of buildings, systems, and equipment to identify maintenance needs and prevent costly breakdowns.
• Service and maintain air conditioning units, geysers, gate motors, and fire equipment according to maintenance schedules.

• Physical fitness to perform manual tasks including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or at heights.
• Previous experience in building maintenance, handyman work, or at least two skilled trades such as plumbing, electrical, or carpentry.
• Good problem-solving skills and ability to diagnose faults and determine the most effective repair approach.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision while managing a schedule of maintenance tasks.
• Practical knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry repairs to handle day-to-day maintenance tasks independently.
• Own basic set of hand tools appropriate for general building maintenance and repair work.
