Shop Assistant

Hands-on from day one, the Shop Assistant will receive, unpack, and price incoming stock deliveries, checking quantities against, process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system and assist customers with product selection by providing knowledgeable advice for a retail business in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

• Conduct regular stock counts and cycle counts to maintain inventory accuracy and identify shrinkage issues promptly.
• Process sales transactions accurately using the point-of-sale system, handling cash, card, and digital payments with speed and precision.
• Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of the store including the sales floor, fitting rooms, stockroom, and staff areas.
• Train and develop new sales assistants, demonstrating excellent customer service techniques and product knowledge.
• Open and close the store following security procedures including cashing up, locking up, and setting alarms.
• Assist customers with product selection by providing knowledgeable advice and recommendations to enhance their shopping experience.

• For management roles, proven experience in leading a retail team and driving sales to achieve targets.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage positively with customers and team members.
• Flexibility to work retail hours including weekends, public holidays, and late trading evenings.
• Proficiency in operating point-of-sale systems and basic computer literacy for stock management and reporting.
• A Grade 12 certificate is the minimum requirement; a retail or business-related qualification is advantageous.
• A genuine passion for customer service with the ability to handle difficult situations calmly and professionally.
• A minimum of one to three years of retail experience with proven customer service skills in a store environment.
