Job Description

Hands-on from day one, the HR Assistant will coordinate onboarding and induction of new employees, prepare and submit statutory reports and coordinate training and development activities for a public-sector entity in Mbombela, Mpumalanga.

Responsibilities
  • Manage employee relations matters including disciplinary hearings, grievances, incapacity processes, and performance improvement.
  • Coordinate onboarding and induction of new employees, ensuring documentation is complete and integration is smooth.
  • Maintain and update the HR information system and employee files, ensuring records are accurate and compliant with data protection.
  • Support organisational change initiatives including restructuring, succession planning, and culture transformation programmes.
  • Administer employee benefits including medical aid, pension funds, group life assurance, and wellness programmes.
  • Provide advice to line managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation for fair application.
Requirements
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll software such as Sage 300 People, VIP Payroll, or an equivalent system.
  • Thorough knowledge of South African labour legislation including the LRA, BCEA, and Employment Equity Act.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting purposes.
  • A minimum of two to five years of progressive experience in a generalist or specialist HR role within an organisation.
  • A diploma or degree in human resource management, industrial psychology, or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative HR team.
