Job Description

Reporting to the relevant manager, the HR Generalist will maintain and update the HR information system and employee files and provide advice to line managers and employees on HR policies at a public-sector entity in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports including Employment Equity Reports, Skills Development Levy claims, and Workplace Skills Plans.
  • Manage employee relations matters including disciplinary hearings, grievances, incapacity processes, and performance improvement.
  • Administer employee benefits including medical aid, pension funds, group life assurance, and wellness programmes.
  • Support organisational change initiatives including restructuring, succession planning, and culture transformation programmes.
  • Provide advice to line managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and employment legislation for fair application.
  • Coordinate training and development activities including identifying needs, sourcing providers, and evaluating effectiveness.
Requirements
  • A diploma or degree in human resource management, industrial psychology, or a related field from a recognised institution.
  • Thorough knowledge of South African labour legislation including the LRA, BCEA, and Employment Equity Act.
  • A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative HR team.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when processing payroll and maintaining employee records.
  • Experience with payroll processing and payroll software such as Sage 300 People, VIP Payroll, or an equivalent system.
  • A minimum of two to five years of progressive experience in a generalist or specialist HR role within an organisation.
  • For recruitment roles, proven ability to source candidates using various methods and experience with applicant tracking systems.
