Job Description

The Junior Associate will manage the diary and schedule, draft, review, and format legal documents and stay updated with changes in legislation and legal procedures affecting.

This is an on-site role in Midrand, Gauteng. There is real scope for growth and skills development for the right person. The role carries deadline-driven reporting cycles, particularly around month-end and year-end.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with the rules and regulations of the legal practice council and maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Maintain and organise legal files and records in physical and electronic format, ensuring documents are correctly indexed and retrievable.
  • Draft, review, and format legal documents including contracts, pleadings, affidavits, opinions, and correspondence with high accuracy.
  • Conduct legal research using legislation, case law databases, and legal textbooks to support legal opinions and arguments.
  • Manage the conveyancing process for property transactions including preparing transfer documents and lodging at the Deeds Office.
  • Stay updated with changes in legislation and legal procedures affecting the practice areas in which the firm operates.
  • Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, court officials, and other stakeholders professionally, providing updates and managing expectations.
Requirements
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure documents are error-free and deadlines and filing requirements are strictly observed.
  • For candidate attorney positions, an LLB degree from an accredited university and eligibility to register articles with the law society.
  • High ethical standards and the ability to handle confidential information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients, counsel, and court personnel professionally.
  • Proficiency in legal software packages including conveyancing platforms, legal accounting systems, and document management systems.
  • Knowledge of court rules, procedures, and legal terminology relevant to the practice area of the firm.
  • A minimum of one to three years of experience in a legal environment including a law firm, corporate legal department, or public service.
