Job Description

The Business Development Manager will achieve or exceed monthly and annual sales targets by managing the sales pipeline, monitor market trends and collaborate.

The position is located in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Training is practical and ongoing rather than a once-off exercise. There is a strong sense of accountability and pride across the team. Suitably qualified candidates are invited to submit their applications.

The role includes weekend, public-holiday, and month-end trading periods typical of retail.

Responsibilities

Client Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for client issues, coordinating with internal operations, logistics, and technical support teams to resolve complaints promptly, and following up personally to confirm that the resolution meets the client's expectations.
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities within existing accounts by understanding clients' evolving business needs, analysing purchase history and usage patterns, and presenting relevant additional solutions that address identified gaps and deliver measurable benefits.

Business Development & Lead Generation

  • Proactively identify and qualify new business opportunities through a strategic mix of cold calling, networking at industry events, LinkedIn outreach, referrals from satisfied clients, and systematic market research to build a robust and diverse sales pipeline.
  • Conduct compelling face-to-face and virtual sales presentations and live product demonstrations to prospective clients, clearly articulating the value proposition, competitive differentiators, and measurable return on investment relevant to their specific business challenges.
Requirements
  • A valid driver's licence and own reliable transport for field sales roles requiring travel to client locations.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written, to engage with clients at all levels.
  • A minimum of two to five years of proven sales experience with a demonstrable track record of meeting or exceeding targets.
  • For management roles, proven experience in leading and motivating a sales team to achieve targets.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion skills with the ability to influence decision-makers and close sales effectively.
  • Proficiency in CRM software such as Salesforce, Zoho, or HubSpot for pipeline management and sales reporting.
